This is a rare and collectible hardcover with dust jacket in near fine (almost like new) condition. 1981 Carcosa Books. This is a subscribers copy with illustrated sheet signed by author Wellman and illustrator Evans affixed to front endpaper (see photo). This copy is near fine, almost like new, crisp and clean inside and out. Pages are crisp, clean and free of markings. Binding tight and straight. Black hardcover boards with red title/author lettering on spine are also near fine. The dust jacket is clean with black and white of author on back and there is shelf wear mostly to back of dust jacket from display, front relatively clean and only a hint of shelf wear. Octavo or 6" x 9" with 352 pages.
Collected here for the first time in book form is the complete original series featuring Manly Wade Wellman's famous occult detectives from the Golden Age of the Pulps; Judge Pursuivant, Professor Enderby and John Thunstone. Their battles against dark magic were originally chronicles in Weird Tales and Strange Stories between 1938-1951. The legendary stories were virtually un-reprinted until this book, Lonely Vigils.
