This is a very good hardcover with dust jacket. 1974 David McKay Reprint, with facsimile dust jacket to First Edition. (author photo on back and matching design) This copy is very clean inside and out. Pages are still crisp, clean and free of markings. The binding is tight and straight. The hardcover boards under jacket are also very good and the dust jacket is clean, still holding shine with light shelf wear. There is some dust spotting along top page edges from shelf but does not carry over to inside pages, (see photo). This re-issue/reprint from David McKay has a facsimile dust jacket with picture of the author on back. The obvious signal it is not a First Edition is the lack of price on dust jacket, the bar code on back of jacket and the lack of matching First Edition copyright page points. Nevertheless, this reprint is a nice collectible for the historical fiction, Civil War fiction collector not looking to break the bank. Crown octavo size or 5.25" x 8" with 374 pages including afterword.

Michael Sahara won the Pulitzer Prize in 1975 for this Civil War novel, The Killer Angels. The acclaimed movie Gettysburg was based on this novel.
