This is a very good set of 4 hardcovers. Hastings House Publishing 1949. This set is very good inside and out. The pages are clean and free of markings. Only a hint of light natural tanning to pages from age but no foxing. Bindings are tight and straight. Blue cloth hardcover boards on each, also very good, clean with only a hint of shelf wear. Crown octavo size of 5.75" x 9".
This is a very nice look at America in the early to mid 20th century. Designed as a guide for touring America, the series divides the country into eight regions. One Volume is New England and the Middle Atlantic States, Volume Two is The Lake States and the Plains States, Volume Three is The South and The Southwest, and Volume Four is The Mountain States and The West Coast. The tour follows the main U.S. Highways with highlights on the most important cities, National Parks and State Parks. Points of interest are also noted. This set, although currently outdated, is a nostalgic look at America post World War Two when families were focused on travel and family time. Brief general information is also given on accommodations, recreations and the like for cities and parks. Please note there are no "maps" and the text is smaller to allow for inclusion of details, this is a true "guide" leading readers from highway to highway and place to place. Designed to be used as a readable detail guide as one is traveling the country.
