This is a very good hardcover, NO DUST JACKET, jacket missing. Peoples Book Club Edition, 1945. This copy is very clean inside and out. The pages have light natural tanning from age but are clean and free of markings. Green cloth hardcover boards are also very good, clean with only light shelf wear. Full color illustrated endpapers front and back. Crown octavo size of 5.5" x 8" with 290 pages.
Pearl S. Buck was an American writer and novelist. Her novel, The Good Earth, won the Pulitzer Prize in 1932 making her the first American woman to win the prize.
When the son of a wealthy family goes looking for inspiration for his painting, he comes across a country family with a lovely daughter. In their simple country home he paints his best portrait ever of the beautiful daughter. After he returns to his home and wealthy life of luxury, he cannot forget her and returns to marry her. The novel follows the marriage through the ups-and-downs of a poor girl and a man accustomed to wealth and leisure. The novel is set in the early 1900's and concludes after World War Two.
