This is a very good hardcover, NO DUST JACKET, jacket missing. First U.S. Edition Knopf Publishing 1990. This copy is very clean inside and out. The pages are still crisp, clean and free of markings. Binding tight and straight. Green cloth hardcover boards also very good with only a hint of shelf wear. There is very light dust spotting along top page edges, but does not carry over to inside. Smaller size, crown octavo 5.5" x 8" with 285 pages. Deckle cut page edges.
Garćia Márquez was born in Columbia in 1928. Winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982, he also served as a foreign correspondent in Rome, Paris and New York. This is one of his most important and acclaimed novels. this edition is translated by Edith Grossman and includes a chronology of Simón Bolívar. The book recounts the turbulent life of Bolivar in a voyage down the Magdalena River from Bogata to the sea in his attempt to leave South America for exile in Europe. Historical novel, fictionalized account set in 1830.
