This classic literary treasure chronicles the French invasion of Russia through the stories of 5 Russian aristocrat families. The first part of the novel was published in 1865 in the Russian periodical, The Russian Messenger. Tolstoy then, unsatisfied with the novel, rewrote it between 1866-69. Originally published under the title "1805", it is unknown why Tolstoy changed the novel's name to War and Peace.
