This is a good condition rare hardcover. 1882 Harper & Brothers Publishing. This copy is good inside and out. The pages have light natural tanning from age but are free of foxing and marks. The binding is tight and straight, remarkably all pages tight to binding. The handsome olive green hardcover boards are also good condition, wearing to edges and corner but the gold title and author lettering front cover is clean and present. Gold illustration in center of front cover good with only light wearing. Medium octavo size or 7" x 9.25" with 159 pages.
This is the 1882 revised edition of the work originally published in 1873. Will Carleton was an America poet who wrote mostly about his rural life in Michigan. The simple events of daily life are highlighted and trivial as they may be are presented in humorous, serious and reverent light. The good and bad of days and night, summers and winters, and the rural life world come to life in the poems throughout. Illustrated by Howard Pyle.
