This is a near fine (almost like new) hardcover in accompanying slipcase. Random House Publishing 1947. This copy is crisp and clean inside and out. The pages are crisp, clean and free of markings. The binding is tight and straight. Red and black design hardcover boards are near fine also. The accompanying slipcase is very good but showing light shelf wear along corners and edges. Illustrated endpapers front and back. Medium octavo size or 6.5" x 9" with 149 pages.
The edition from Random House is the translation from Persian to English of a selection of quatrains attributed to Omar Khayyam, the Astronomer-Poet of Persia. The beautiful illustrations throughout are by Mahmoud Sayah, also a Persian who graduated from the University of Teheran. This is a fine edition for any student of Persian history and poetry, although much speculation as to wether the poems can actually be attributed to Khayyam remains as he was a known astronomer and mathematician, not a poet.
