This is a very good hardcover in slipcase. 1654 Heritage Press. This copy is very clean inside and out. The pages are still crisp, clean and free of markings or foxing. The binding is tight and straight. Lavender hardcover boards w handsome design are also very good with only a hint of wearing. Speckle page edges add fine touch to hardcover design. Title/author lettering in black along spine is clean and intact. The black accompanying slipcase is good condition with light wearing mostly along edges and corners, but very good overall. Imperial octavo size or 8.5" x 11" with 441 pages.
Illustrated by Bernard Lamotte, SWANN'S WAY is Proust's first work in one of 7 books that comprise IN SEARCH OF LOST TIME, the expansive literary genius borne by Proust. This first book of the works begins with the narrator's effort to revisit his past to better understand it. In thinking of his own life, the narrator is led to the past of Charles Swann, a family friend. The books are heavily autobiographical IN SEARCH OF LOST TIME, and in the beginning novel of the 7, SWANN'S WAY. Superb illustrations by Bernard Lamotte begin with "The Young Proust" opposite the title page.
