The binding is tight and straight. Gold cloth hardcover boards under dust jacket are very good front and back with only a hint of wear. The dust jacket is good, showing wear including tears at corners and top edge. Black and white of author and photographer on back of jacket as appeared on first edition. Super octavo size or 7" x 11" with 817 pages including index. Illustrated map inside front endpapers and ruler chronology inside back endpapers.
