This is a very good hardcover, no dust jacket as none issued by publisher. 1986 Longmeadow Press. This copy is very clean inside and out. The pages are still crisp and clean, free of markings or foxing. The binding is tight and straight. The full color illustrated cover is clean and still mostly shiny with light shelf wear, corners rubbing but overall good. Super Octavo size or 7.5" x 10.5" with 349 pages.
Originally published in two parts, this 1881 novel by Johanna Spyri tells the tale of a 5 year old girl living with her grandparents in the Swiss Alps. Such a beloved tale it has become that scores of movies and theater productions have been developed. The novel is among the most known works in Swiss literature. This edition is handsomely illustrated by Jessie Willcox Smith, an American artist who works include illustrations for Evangeline (1897), An Old Fashioned Girl (1902), The Water Babies (1916) and more.
