This is a good hardcover. 1902 Scribner Publishing. This copy is good inside and out. The pages have light natural tanning but are good, tight to binding and free of markings. No significant foxing. Rough cut page edges. Red cloth over hardcover boards with gold art nouveau design by Margaret Armstrong with flowers in black and gold gilt and gold snake bottom of design. There is wearing to red cloth along spine and corners, with light soiling and fading but still considered good condition, priced as such. (see photo) 8vo with 215 pages. This first edition features 6 colour plates illustrated by F. C. Yohn.
This story is set in New England small town venue, late 19th century. It is a story of relationships of people in the small town, focusing on two particular families, The Byingtons and Winslows, facing love, loss and loyalty.
