This is a near fine, (almost like new) leather-bound hardcover. Easton Press Collector's Edition 1981. This copy is crisp and clean inside and out. Pages are crisp, clean and free of markings. Binding tight and straight. Bound in full red leather with gold accents and title lettering, this fine volume has Smyth sewn binding with gold silk moire fabric endpapers. Page edges trimmed in gold. Attached silk ribbon bookmark. Hubbed spine finish off the fine binding on this edition. The leather binding is near fine front and back with only a hint of shelf wear. Octavo size or 5.5" x 9" with 857 pages.
Published in its entirety in 1869, this edition is Easton Press Collectors Edition published in 1981 and translated from Russian by Louise & Aylmer Maude and subsequently revised by the same translators. The edition includes a special introduction from them.
The novel chronicles the French invasion of Russia and the impact of the Napoleonic ear as told through five aristocratic Russian families. The novel received great success when published and Tolstoy became known as "the lion of Russian literature".
