This is a near fine, almost like new, hardcover in slipcase. Heritage Press 1958. This copy is crisp and clean inside and out. The pages are crisp, clean and free of markings. The binding is tight and straight. Handsome sewn binding in color decorative illustrated hardcover boards. Royal octavo size, 10"x8.5" and 1120 pages including glossary. The slipcase is very good with only a hint of fading or wear, mostly at corners.
Heritage Press issued handsome quality bindings for members from 1937-1982. Although not considered "fine" bindings in leather, they are nonetheless handsome quality editions with sewn bindings and reprinted illustrations.
This offering is for The Comedies of Shakespeare only. Originally printed to accompany The Histories and Tragedies of Shakespeare, this is a single volume of The Comedies only. Illustrations Edward Ardizzone of London throughout. Shakespeare wrote 14 comedies and there are two 3-color illustrations for each. The illustrations were selected by Riverside Press of Cambridge, MA.
Most editions of Shakespeare abbreviate the identifying speech-tags, as Vir for Virgilia, Val for Valeria etc. None of those shortcuts have been taken in this edition which convey as a convenience for the reader. Such is the quality of this edition.
