This is a very good hardcover with a good condition accompanying slipcase. 1945 Viking Press First Illustrated Edition. This hardcover is very good inside and out. The pages are clean and free of markings, no foxing and only a hint of light natural tanning to pages from age. Color illustrated endpapers front and back. The color illustrations on endpapers and throughout are delightfully intact with bold colors and details bringing the text to life. The binding is tight and straight. Royal octavo size, 6.5"x10" and 131 pages. The hardcover boards have a color illustrated frontispiece and are very good with only light wearing and a hint of fading. The slipcase is good, light wearing mostly at corners with color illustrated frontispiece with title, author, illustrator and publisher on pastedown frontispiece.
The Red Pony was written by John Steinbeck in 1933 with the first 3 chapters being published in magazines from 1933-1936. The full book was published in 1937 and the illustrated edition in 1945.
