This is a near fine, (almost like new) hardcover with dust jacket. 1990 Library of America. This copy is crisp and clean inside and out. The pages are crisp, clean and free of markings. Octavo 8v0, 6"x 9" with 1199 pages including index, chronology and notes.
Blue cloth hardcover boards under jacket are like new. Attached silk ribbon bookmark. The dust jacket is clean and shiny with only a hint of shelf wear along edges.
Grant wrote his personal memoirs at the urging of Mark Twain, his good friend. Facing financial ruin and suffering from cancer, he finished his memoirs just days before his death, securing his family's financial future. Included in this edition are 174 letters along with the battles and recollections of the Civil War.
