This classic literary novel is a semi-autobiographical novel by American writer Wallace Stegner. The novel matches some of the locations the Stegner family lived in, including Salt Lake City. The novel's name, Big Rock Candy Mountain, is named after the folk song about a mythical paradise.
In the novel, Bo Mason, along with his wife Elsa and two sons, live a transient life of poverty and despair. Drifting from town to town, the ruthless Bo seeks fortune. The novel portrays 3 decades of the Mason family life's they struggle to survive the rough years of the early 20th century.
