This is a very good hardcover in slipcase. 1951 Heritage Press. This copy is very good inside and out. The pages are crisp and clean, free of markings. Handsome sewn binding is tight and straight. Sand colored linen cloth hardcover boards are near fine, almost like new. Light sunning along spine where exposed in slipcase. The brown slipcase is good, showing shelf wear at corners/edges and beginning to separate some along top edge of slipcase. The slipcase is fashioned to imitate brown leather giving it a weathered and western look. Royal octavo size or 7" x 10" with 437 pages.
This classic gem is still a favorite in literary circles. Owen Wister was the first writer to put the American cowboy into fiction. The illustrations by William Moyers are equally as well known. The portrait of the cowboy in the novel is highly romanticized yet boldly realistic. It is a novel of action and character along with social comment. This would be a welcome addition to any library.
