Published in 1832, The Alhambra is a collection of essays and stories by American author Washington Irving. It was inspired by his 1828 visit to the Alhambra in Granada Spain and partial written during that time. Irving had been staying in Madrid after completing his bio of Christopher Columbus. Shortly after he travelled to Granada Spain and fell in love with the landscapes and city. He asked for access to the palace, which was granted partially because of his writer status and was inspired to write Tales of the Alhambra.
