This is a very good hardcover with slipcase. Heritage Press circa 1960's and Printed at University Press Cambridge. The inside pages are crisp and clean, free of markings and foxing. The binding is tight and straight. Published in handsome marbled hardcover boards, this copy includes the original glassine jacket, BUT the glassine jacket accompanying the hardcover is very worn w tearing. Still, good as present, most copies do not still have the glassine jacket. The blue slipcase is also good, shows some fading along edges, but clean with fading as most of the wear, otherwise very good. The binding on this copy is tight and straight. Oblong quarto, 7"x10" in handsome marbled boards.
John Milton was an English poet. Reflected in his writings were the issues of the times, political upheaval and religious flux. His most notable work was Paradise Lost. This poem tells of two brothers and a sister lost while journeying through the woods. The brothers leave for find provisions while the tiring sister remains. There, she encounters Comus who claims he will lead her to her brothers and the village. Charmed, she follows him only to become captured and brought to his pleasure palace. She continually exerts her freedom of choice by defiance, while her brothers search for her. The color plates enhance the text and are striking and still vibrant and bright in this copy.
