This copy is crisp and clean inside and out, pages are free of markings. Bound in red full leather with gold accents and lettering. Gold gilt page edges. Handsome Smyth sewn binding with attached silk ribbon bookmark. Red silk moire fabric endpapers. Hubbed spine finished off this fine binding.
Published in 1959, Goodbye, Columbus is a collection of fiction by American novelist Philip Roth. In addition to Goodbye Columbus, five other short stories are included. The Conversion of the Jews, Defender of the Faith, Epstein, You Can't Tell a Man by the Song He Sings, and Eli, the Fanatic make up the other stories. Each story Jewish characters who leave the ghettos of their parents and grandparents to attend collect, enter white-collar professional careers, and migrate to the suburbs. The book and stories were controversial as some felt it portrayed Jews in a less than flattering light. Regardless, the book won the National Book Award for Fiction in 1960.
