This is a very good small hardcover, no dust jacket as none issued for this edition. 1924 MacMillan Pocket Classics. This copy is very good. The pages have light natural tanning but are clean and very good. Previous owners bookplate neatly place inside cover (see photos). The binding is tight and straight with only a hint of wear. The brown cloth hardcover boards are very good, there is wearing from age with some rubbing of title on spine. The front cover title and author name light rubbing but legible. See photos as previous owner marked initials on top page edges, does not carry over to inside pages. Most of rubbing and wear to cover along edges and corners. There is tanning of pages but no foxing etc.
This small hardcover is 4"x6" 16 mo size. All the pocket classics by MacMillan were small "pocket" size "carry around in your pocket" books for general reading. The text inside is accordingly small but in line with pocket editions. This is not an illustrated edition but does have one handsome illustrations across from title page.
Published in 1902, this novel by American writer Owen Wister is set in the Wyoming territory in the 1880's. It follows the life of a cowboy on a cattle ranch. It is considered to be the first true western fiction novel. It paved the way for authors such as Louis L'Amour and Zane Grey to follow.
