This is a very good hardcover, NO dust jacket, jacket missing. First American Edition Macmillan 1949. This copy is very clean inside and out. The pages have rough cut edge and are clean and free of markings. There is a hint of light natural tanning from age but no serious foxing seen. The binding is tight and straight. Tan hardcover boards are good, there is light shelf wear to corners and edges but good overall. Back of hardcover has red smudge and some light markings but good (see photos) Crown octavo, 5.75"x8" and 278 pages.
Robert Standish is actually a pseudonym of English writer Digby George Gerahty. The novel was published in 1948, London. It is a novel about tea plantations and looks at native ceremonies and beliefs. The story centers around the Elephant Walk Bungalow and Elephant Walk Tea. The novel is most well known from the Hollywood production of the same title, starring Elizabeth Taylor and Dana Andrews, along with Peter Finch.
