This is a near fine, (almost like new) paperback. 1964 Time Life Books. This copy is crisp and clean inside and out. The pages are crisp, clean and free of markings. No foxing or tanning etc seen. NO creasing along spine. The cover is full color illustrated front and back and is almost like new, only a hint of shelf wear. Crown octavo 5"x8" and 565 pages including index.
Saints and Strangers being the lives of the Pilgrim Fathers, and their families, with their friends and foes, and an account of their posthumous wanderings in limbo, their final resurrection and rise to glory and the strange pilgrims of Plymouth Rock. Published in 1945, the above elongated title is a fair description of the book. The author set out to write a history of the Plymouth Pilgrims, their traditions and more. There are few subjects more written about than The Pilgrims and their lives in America. This book looks to separate myths surrounding the pilgrims being pious, drab, and stern when actually, the author argues, they were adventurous, united and fond of drink and pleasurable living. It is a realistic picture of people often inaccurately portrayed.
