This is a like new hardcover with dust jacket. 1988 Presidio Press. This copy is crisp and clean inside and out. The pages are crisp, clean and free of markings. The binding is tight and straight. Black hardcover boards under jacket are like new. Dust jacket is clean and shiny with only a hint of shelf wear at edges/corners.
This book is an impressive and serious study of one of the most fascinating military campaigns in history. Sept. 7th, 1812, by itself has been termed on of the most cataclysmic days in the history of war: 74,000 casualties from both sides at the Battle of Borodino. David Chandler, long recognized as an authority on Napoleonic history, in his foreword to this book puts forth some of the questions long asked. Was this great struggle between nations and alliances inevitable? Were the war plans realistic? Was the role of the peasant-partisans anticipated? He concludes that Nafziger's excellent treatment will suggest answers to many of the posed questions".
The book begins with the power structure of Europe 1809-1812 which leads into the causes of the 1812 campaign and then proceed to the organization of the armies of France and her allies. The organization of the Russian army is likewise detailed. The progress of the invasion comes next. the appendices of the book is where you find invaluable documents, treaties, and decrees and concludes with miscellaneous documentation of inestimable value to historians and students alike.
