This is a wonderful collectible and rare hardcover in slipcase. First Printing 1968 Random House Publishing. This copy is very good condition. **NOTE** there is scuffing inside front cover where previous owners bookplate removed, see photo. Otherwise, this is in very good condition inside and out. The pages are clean and free of markings. There is only a hint of light natural tanning from age, no foxing seen. The binding is tight and straight. The slipcase is very good. There is a paste down photo of young Capote and "Miss Sook Faulk" on the front of the slipcase as issued by publisher. The slipcase has some wearing at corners, but considered very good and intact with mild wearing.
This story appear originally in McCalls magazine in 1967. The story is a childhood tale of a boy and his bully problem. It was a sequel to Capote's, A Christmas Memory. Inspired by Capote's own childhood in Alabama, one of the main characters, Miss Sook Faulk, is based on his older cousin, Nanny Faulk whom Truman called "Sook". The tale is one of bulls, tattletales, and consequences that can have lasting impacts and has a strong moral lesson related to revenge.
