This is one of The Oxford Illustrated Dickens, originally published in 21 volumes in 1954 and reprinted up till 1989. This collectible series is the most comprehensive illustrated Dickens. Each volume includes original illustrations, many of which appeared in the works first edition. The text is derived from the Charles Dickens Edition, revised by the author in the 1860's.
Dickens unfinished tale of murder and mystery is set among the tombs and gargoyles of Cloisterham, based on Rochester. Dickens died after 3 of the projected 12 monthly parts of The Mystery of Edwin Drood had been published. But, he did leave material for three further parts; the six issues constitute the text of the book as here reprinted. A supplementary note to this edition describes the main theories proposed for how Dickens intended to solve the mystery.
