This is an as new hardcover with dust jacket. 1989 Oxford University Press. This copy is crisp and clean inside and out. Pages are crisp, clean and free of markings. Binding tight and straight. Maroon cloth hardcover boards under jacket are like new. Dust jacket clean and shiny like new.
This is one of The Oxford Illustrated Dickens set, originally published in 1954 and reprinted throughout 1989. The collectible series is regarded as the most comprehensive illustrated Dickens. Each volume contains original illustrations from Dickens early engravings. The text is derived from the Charles Dickens Edition, revised by the author in the 1860's.
This volume contains two titles of great biographical interest. The weekly miscellany Master Humphrey's Clock, besides providing the original setting for The Old Curiosity Shop and Barnaby Rudge, was the scene of Dickens revival of Mr Pickwick and the Wellers.
A Child's History of England, js not representative of Victorian schoolroom history; filled with distrust for "the good old days", it gives a picture of wickedness in high places.
