Few figures in American history have so charges the imagination for been so little understood as Sitting Bull. Robert Utley's vivid historical account corrects the many misconceptions about the life of the Native American leader who resisted the full force of the U.S. Government for 25 yrs.
At the center of this historical narrative is the flesh-and-blood Sitting Bull - a leader of his people and man of rare complexity. And yet to the American government he was merely an obstacle; a remnant of resistance to the white man's westward expansion. After the battle at Little Bighorn, Sitting Bull believed he had earned his people the peace to pursue their honorable lives. But, he failed to understand he had sealed their fate and hastened their downfall.
