The pages are crisp, clean and free of markings. Bindings tight and straight. Green hardcover boards with gold lettering and accents are like new. The slipcase is like new with only a hint of shelf wear from display. Illustrated frontispiece on slipcase showing a little wear but wonderful illustration of The Presidents House from the Maryland Historical Society.
Volume One of this set begins with President George Washington and ends with Benjamin Harrision's loss to Grover Cleveland in 1892. Volume Two begins with President Grover Cleveland and ends with Harry Truman. The readers hears account of the planning for the White House during Washington's administration along with all the additions and remodels. The author takes us through each presidents time in office and the White House, including their personal life, social life, White House gatherings, and First Lady impacts on the house, the politics, and the social role of the White House. Both volumes total over 1200 pages and over 120 illustrations and photos. It is a wonderful vintage edition direct from the White House Historical Association and National Geographic.
