This is a good hardcover showing some wear but a solid copy. First American Edition Thus 1909 DoubleDay Publishing. This copy is good inside and out. The is natural tanning to pages from age but they are clean with only a few spots of foxing found. The binding is tight and straight. Gold hardcover boards are showing some wear but maroon lettering on cover clear and legible. Overall cover showing shelf wear and some spots on back but good and solid. Crown octavo book size or 5.5" x 8" with 128 pages.

The Crime of the Congo by A. Conan Doyle was originally published in London in 1909. It's speaks of human rights abuses in the Congo, which was a private state controlled by King of the Belgians, Leopold ll. Doyle speaks of the abuses taking place in the lucrative rubber trade of the area. He felt the area was being exploited and the ivory trade and rubber trade was particularly offensive. The book was well received and still noted for its early activism against human rights violations.
