This is a very good hardcover. 1922 Penn Publishing Edition. This copy is very good inside and out. NOTE: inside front cover, first blank page, there was a piece of paper left inside that created toning (tanning) to blank page (see photo). Otherwise very clean inside with no other marks or foxing seen. The binding is tight and straight. Fine binding in green hardcover boards with gold gilt Capital design and lettering. The cover front and back is very good with only light shelf wear and the lettering on spine is not worn or faded. Crown octavo book size or 5.5" x 8" with 375 pages including index.
Books on the Nations Capital are always in fashion, and this rare vintage copy, The Book of Washington, is no exception. Illustrated frontispiece in color of the Lincoln Memorial still has tissue guard in place. Numerous vintage photos of all the landmarks accompany the engaging text. It is extensively illustrated as such and includes over 70 photos or illustrations. Descriptions and historic importance accompany the illustrations. The author, Robert Shackleton, extensively wrote about historic American places and titles include this title, The Book of Washington, along with The Book of Chicago, The Book of New York, The Book of Boston, The Book of Philadelphia and more.
